“I LOVE TRASH!!!”

The Lutheran Youth Organization of the Rocky Mountain Synod encouraged a synod‐wide “Kleanapalooza” for the summer, asking congregations to head outside and CLEAN UP! Lauren Abromski, Gene Tesdahl, and Kristen headed to the park at 19th and Collyer and picked up 3 bags worth of trash. We found a valid check, which gave us the opportunity to answer the question: what is the right thing to do with someone else’s money? Gene impressed us with his impression of Oscar the Grouch and his singing of the song “I Love Trash” while Lauren overcame her fear of dead animals covered in ants. She actually grabbed a dead craw‐dad and managed to keep her lunch down at the same time! We ended the evening eating popsicles and talking about how God instructed us to care for the earth and the things that get in the way of us doing just that.

Confirmation Camp at LRR: Stellar!

Justin Dirkes, Vincent Byrne, Lindsey Loberg, Megan Loberg, Danielle Drieth, Michaela Goeke, and Abby Thornburg all hung out with Pastor Mark up at camp for a week and had a great time. They did camp crafts, shot archery, lead worship, hiked, and overcame fears on the high ropes course. Be sure to check out the cool pictures in the Narthex on the Youth News bulletin board!

It’s True – Eating Dessert First Will Make for a Great Time

Many thanks to Chez Tesdahl and Chez Kelley and Chez Baltrum for hosting courses along the way on the Senior High Regressive Dinner! The event was amazing, and the food was out of this world as FOUR KEY* things happened: we had CARING CONVERSATION at each home about school (both good and bad things about it), we celebrated the RITUAL and TRADTION of kicking off the fall with a “back to school” activity, we had a moment of SERVICE as we jumped out of the van (after it had come to a complete stop) to pick up trash we saw in the street, and we had a DEVOTION about worries in the face of a coming academic year. With these keys in place, and with the laughter that was had thru the evening, it’s a night not soon to be forgotten!

*Stay tuned for more information on the “Four Keys” and how they are important in
faith formation, and how you too can “Four Key” your own household activities!

CONFIRMATION CLASS STARTS AGAIN!!! HOORAY!

It’s time to start meeting as a confirmation class again! You can read all the details about the confirmation experience in the Education section of this month’s STAR, but I just wanted to let you know how stoked we are to spend time with you on Wednesday nights again! HOORAY!!!!

FROM THE DESK OF DEACONESS KRISTEN:

Hey all! I have a special request. I am speaking at the Southwest CA Synod Sr. High Youth Gathering in October. The theme is “Scarred” based on Isaiah 53:5 “…by his wounds we are healed.” As a visual component, I am hoping to have a slide-show of pictures of real people with real scars. Do you have a cool scar you’d like to show off? Do you mind having it photographed? If you would like to help me out and let me take a picture of your scar, let me know. With every scar there is a story, and I’d love to hear yours. Call or email me at the church! THANKS!!!! - DKB
