Taking Faith Home in the “New Year”

As we begin a New Year I would like to encourage each one of you in your New Years resolutions! How quickly we all are to make lists every year of all the ways we will “improve” our daily life. Whether it be with diet and exercise, better communication with our spouse or children, better use of our time, better organization, the lists could (and have for me) go on and on.

May I suggest this year that our list for such self “improvement” be based on something, or actually someone who does promise us the ability to change! What a best seller that would be!! If we were promised, with an unconditional money back guarantee, that dedicating our time and energy to a certain resource would have a significant, life‐long impact on who we are, wouldn’t we all be willing to give it a try! (Especially if I new I could get my money back!) If we knew without a doubt that we could increase our happiness, our confidence, our joy for living and have internal peace, we wouldn’t be able to get to the store quick enough!

The Taking the Faith Home inserts have been a blessing to many members of our congregation. They are meant to help us begin a relationship with our Creator or to continue to foster an ongoing one. They are also meant to help in the relationships of those around us, in our families and in our daily life. I challenge you in this New Year to make Christ your New Years Resolution. That you resolve to let Him walk with Him daily in your joy and in your pain. That you foster a relationship with Him through scripture and in your intentional obedience to grow in your knowledge for a God who deeply desires to walk with us.

And you will find happiness, confidence, joy, and yes even peace, in the most painful and trying times that this world can throw our way. He already gave His life, what better guarantee is there?

Lenten Mentoring of Confirmands

A 6 week commitment to journey together with a youth in our congregation. Mentoring is intended to help confirmands develop and keep a sense of belonging to a church community that cares about them and about their spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth.
There will be two 1 ½ ‐hour training sessions on January 8th and February 5th from 6:30 to
8:00 p.m. at church.

Mentors are supposed to be:
• A supportive and loving presence;
• A listening ear;
• A trusted friend;
• A teacher of wisdom;
• A companion on the journey of faith;
• A role model;

What mentors are supposed to do:
• Hold their youth in their hearts and prayers;
• Contact the youth weekly and whenever necessary;
• Meet at least once a week;
• Provide support;
• Ask good questions;
• Help youth find their own answers to life’s questions;
• Enjoy what they are doing and share that joy:

At the end of the Lenten season we’ll meet shortly for evaluation of the program. Please
contact Pastor Lili if you have any questions or would like to partner with a young person for
this Lenten season journey.

Blessings,
Dawn
